Circle is delighted to welcome the return of the Fr. Patsy Carolan Education Bursary for 2026, supporting Circle tenants and members of their households in accessing and continuing education and training.
Now in its second year, the bursary has grown in response to a strong tenant interest. For 2026, Circle has doubled the overall fund from €5,000 to €10,000, while the maximum individual award has increased from €500 to €750.
Supporting access to education
More than 60 applications were received in the first year of the bursary, with successful applicants receiving support towards costs associated with education and training, including course fees, registration fees, books, materials and equipment.
What our previous bursary recipients said
We caught up with some of our 2025 recipients who told us that receiving the bursary had made it easier for them to participate in education or training. One recipient told us:
“Getting the bursary helped me manage essential costs, which reduced stress and gave me more time and energy to focus on my studies and supporting my family.”
While another described the bursary as:
“A great enabler [that] goes a long way in breaking down barriers to accessing education.”
Recipients also told us about completing assignments, achieving strong exam results, undertaking work experience and becoming more confident in their studies. One recipient had been selected for an Erasmus+ work placement in Málaga and achieved distinction results in their exams.
For another recipient, the outcome was simple:
“I have completed my course, and I am now working.”
Building on what we learned
For 2026, in addition to expanding the bursary, we have looked at ways to make the application process more accessible. This year, we are introducing a new supported recorded application option.
Supported Recorded Application
Applicants who need additional support to complete a written or online application can speak with their Tenancy Services Officer (TSO). The TSO will guide them through the application questions and record their responses in their own words. It is important to note that supported recorded applications will be considered in the same way as applications submitted online or in writing.
Who can apply?
The bursary is open to Circle tenants and authorised household members aged 18 or over who are enrolled in, or already studying, a recognised course. The chosen course must be accredited or lead to recognised qualifications, skills or employment opportunities. Whether you are returning to education, continuing your studies, developing new skills or working towards the next stage of your career, we encourage you to consider applying.
